Janus

Bar Unit
Product by Ligne Roset

Sebastian Herkner teamed up again with Ligne Roset to create the Janus cabinet for which he entirely chose the finishes. The originality of this piece of furniture lies in the fact that its doors are openable/closed and are fully lacquered. A veneer is also created on the door edge. The word "January" comes from Janus, the Roman god of beginnings and endings. Janus was proudly venerated by the Romans as an "authentic" god (as opposed to the gods inherited from the Greek Pantheon). He was the god of transition – endings, beginnings, gates, passages. The name of Janus (Ianus, in latin, as the alphabet doesn’t have any J letter) is etymologically linked to the word ianua, the door, and Janus is himself designated as the ianitor – the guardian of the heaven gates.

Available in two finishes: Option 1: Chests and doors: black stained ash veneer, rear of the door: black laminate, legs, pivot uprights and handles: satin black lacquer: Option 2: chests and doors: dark walnut veneer, rear of the door: chocolate laminate, legs and pivot uprights and handles: satin black lacquer. 1/4" - 8 mm thick bronze tinted tempered glass shelf (with optional additional glass shelf). 180° pivoting doors.
